MARAWI CITY — A multi-agency task force started a crackdown on vehicles ferrying “fictitious registrants” on Tuesday after Army soldiers intercepted 13 such vehicles in Saguiaran town in Lanao del Sur on the same day.

Col. Dario Bucawit, chief of the 64th Infantry Battalion said 13 vans and jeeps filled with suspected flying registrants came as far away as Dipolog City in Zamboanga del Norte, Manolo Fortich town in Bukidnon, Cagayan de Oro and Iligan cities.

The Commission on Elections has ordered a re-registration of voters in Lanao del Sur and the rest of the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao in an effort to weed out “hundreds of thousands” of fake voters.

Violence marred the second day of the registration in Lanao del Sur after an off-duty policeman shot and wounded three persons who had lined up to register in the town of Bayang.
