A video circulating on Tiktok and Facebook (FB) claims that mothers, housewives, and single parents will receive a monthly stipend of P10,000 as part of a “new ayuda” or cash assistance program of government. This claim is fake.
The video revived an oft-repeated spurious claim debunked twice by VERA Files Fact Check last year.
There has been no announcement from the government regarding any cash aid distribution specific for mothers and housewives. Meanwhile, the recently passed Expanded Solo Parents Welfare Act includes a monthly allowance of P1,000 for single parents earning minimum wage or below.
The 70-second video was first posted on June 2 by TikTok user BBM-SARA OFFICIAL TANDEM (@bahogete). More than a month later, on July 13, a netizen published the first 30 seconds of the TikTok video on FB Reel.
The clip displayed the text: “AGREE OR DISAGREE? BAGONG AYUDA! P10K monthly allowance sa mga NANAY, HOUSEWIFE AT SINGLE PARENT (New aid! P10k monthly allowance for mothers, housewives and single parents).”
It grabbed the audio from the July 3, 2021 episode of Counterpoint, a talk show of former presidential legal counsel Salvador Panelo, in which he advocated for a monthly P10,000 stipend for mothers.
The clip also showed a series of photos featuring President Bongbong Marcos and hands holding P1,000 peso bills. Placed below the slideshow was a news ticker that read: “BREAKING NEWS: P2,000 MONTHLY ALLOWANCE FOR HOUSEWIFE.”
There is no such allowance for stay-at-home mothers. The move was only a proposal in a bill filed at the House of Representatives during the 18th Congress. It did not move past the committee level.
TikTok user @bahogete’s video garnered over 2.7 million views and almost 300,000 engagements since posting. It was published two days after Social Welfare Secretary Erwin Tulfo said in a May 31 press briefing that Marcos instructed him to “digitalize” the department’s issuance of cash assistance.
Meanwhile, the revival of the fake video on FB Reels came a few days after Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano filed a bill seeking to give a one-time cash aid of P10,000 for Filipino families. The clip has been viewed 428,000 times and got 5,900 engagements.
