PRESIDENT Rodrigo Duterte has said numerous times that he would like to pursue an independent foreign policy. But he has clarified on Sept. 13 that this does not mean cutting alliances with the United States.
Two weeks later, on Sept. 26, he said in front of the media that he was “about to cross the Rubicon between (him) and the US.” But in a Q&A with the media right after that statement, he again clarified that it did not mean breaking ties with Uncle Sam.
Less than a month after that assurance, the President announced yesterday in China that he is “separating” from the United States.
“Your honors, in this venue, I announce my separation from the United States.”
Is it “goodbye” or “be right back”?
