A YouTube video claims that Sen. Raffy Tulfo has ordered Department of Environment and Natural Resources Secretary Antonia Yulo-Loyzaga to be put in jail. This is false. Tulfo made no such order nor was there any move to arrest Loyzaga.
The video was uploaded on April 7, two days after Tulfo called for a Senate investigation into a possible conflict of interest involving the environment secretary’s alleged family landholdings in Palawan. Its thumbnail text read:
“KULONG KA NGAYON. ITO ANG BANGUNGUT NI DENR SEC YULO! TINAPOS NI TULFO
(You’re now going to jail! This is the nightmare of DENR Sec Yulo! Ended by Tulfo)!”
Its headline also read: “Hala Grabe to! DENR NabulabOg YULO Walang kawala tinuluyan na Matinding Utos Raffy tulfo PBBM (Oh no this is intense! DENR was disturbed. Yulo has no escape, now finished by an extreme order from Raffy Tulfo, PBBM).”
Neither Tulfo nor President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. had ordered Loyzaga to be sent to jail.
While the Senate may order the arrest of an individual by citing them for contempt, Loyzaga has not been the subject of such a decision. The president also has no power to order arrests.
Tulfo just filed a Senate resolution seeking to investigate Loyzaga for alleged conflict of interest over her family’s reported ownership of Yulo King Ranch (YKR), a 40,000-hectare property located in the towns of Coron and Busuanga in Palawan. No hearing has been set.
YKR is part of the Busuanga Pasture Reserve established through a proclamation issued by late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr. in 1975. Luis Yulo, Loyzaga’s father and a known Marcos crony, was a major stockholder of the ranch.
The Presidential Commission on Good Government sequestered the ranch in 1986 for reportedly being part of the Marcoses’ ill-gotten wealth. In 2023, the Sandiganbayan lifted the YKR’s sequestration.
In an April 5 statement, Loyzaga denied that her family owns the Busuanga Pasture Reserve claiming that the land “has always been government-owned.”
