The International Criminal Court has thrown out the government’s request to suspend its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity in the Duterte administration’s war on drugs, removing one hurdle for the resumption of the probe.

The International Criminal Court (ICC) has allowed alleged victims of the drug war under the Duterte administration to present their views on the government’s opposition to the resumption of the tribunal’s investigation into the bloody campaign.

Some 90 relatives of victims of the war on drugs of the Duterte administration have requested the International Criminal Court (ICC) to allow them to respond to the Philippine government’s appeal to suspend the court’s investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed during the bloody campaign.

Marcos is the latest and the highest public official who put into question ICC’s jurisdiction to investigate the drug-related killings under the Duterte administration.

Although Dela Rosa and former president Rodrigo Duterte were named in the request of former ICC prosecutor Fatou Bensouda for an investigation into the killings related to the drug war, no suspects have yet been identified in the probe.
