AS presidential son and Pampanga representative Juan Miguel “Mikey” Arroyo continues to push for charter change, Pulse Asia came out with its latest survey results showing that four out of 10 Filipinos are not in favor of amending the Constitution now.
The survey conducted Feb. 2 to 15 with 1,200 respondents showed a big plurality of Filipinos (42 percent) is against charter change now while a sizable majority (64 percent) does not think it is appropriate to amend the 1987 Constitution at this time.
The survey showed that 33 percent favor amendments the constituion now, a decrease from the 39 percent in November 2006 and 40 percent in July 2006.
Of the 42 percent who do not favor Cha-Cha now, 16.7 percent cited as reason “To avoid chaos” and 16.4 per cent cited, “Present Constitution is good enough.”
At least 11.5 per cent opposed Cha-cha in order not to extend the term of office of officials and 10.8 per cent cited in order not to extend the term of Gloria Arroyo.
Of the 33 per cent who favor Cha-Cha, 36.63 percent said to “improve the economy,” 20.7 percent said to eradicate corruption, and 11.9 per cent said to “improve the law.”
