SEN. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III and Sen. Manuel “Manny” Villar and former President Joseph Estrada are leading in the presidential race, according to the Dec. 5-10 pre-election survey of BusinessWorld and the Social Weather Stations.

The survey also found Senators Manuel Roxas and Loren Legarda leading in the ice presidential race.

In the Senate race, Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago, Sen. Ramon Revilla Jr. and Sen. Jinggoy Estrada lead the first circle of 12 that includes three candidates from the Liberal Party, two from Lakas-Kampi-CMD, two from Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino, one each from the People’s Reform Party, Nacionalista Party, Nationalist People’s Coalition, and Kilusang Bagong Lipunan, and one independent.

From a list of 11 presidential candidates, 46 percent of respondents chose Aquino, 27 percent Villar, 16 percent Estrada, 5 percent Gilberto Teodoro Jr., 1 percent Eduardo Villanueva, and 1 percent  Richard Gordon.

Jamby Madrigal obtained 0.2 percent, Oliver Lozano 0.1 percent, Mario Crespo 0.1 percent, John Carlos delos Reyes 0.1 percent, and Jesus Nicanor Perlas 0.03 percent. Four percent could not give an answer.

For the vice presidential preferences, 43 percent chose Roxas, 32 percent Legarda, 10 percent Jejomar Binay, 3 percent Eduardo Manzano, and 2 percent Bayani Fernando.

Jose Sonza scored 0.3 percent and Perfecto Yasay 0.1 percent. None chose Dominador Chipeco, Jr.

For the senatorial race,Santiago (People’s Reform Party) was chosen by 55 percent, Revilla (Lakas-Kampi-CMD) by 54 percent, and Estrada (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) by 53 percent.

The next nine candidates: Pilar Juliana Cayetano (Nacionalista Party) 48 percent, Franklin Drilon (Liberal Party) 47 percent, Ralph Recto (Liberal Party) 44 percent, Vicente Sotto III (Nationalist People’s Coalition) 40 percent, Juan Ponce Enrile (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) 37 percent, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (Kilusang Bagong Lipunan) 32 percent, Sergio Osmeña III (Independent) 31 percent, Teofisto Guingona III (Liberal Party) 24 percent, and Manuel Lapid (Lakas-Kampi-CMD) 23 percent.

Within the bounds of statistical error are Jose De Venecia III (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) 21 percent, Rozzano Rufino Biazon (Liberal Party) 20 percent, Sonia Roco (Liberal Party) 18 percent, and Gwendolyn Pimentel (PDP-Laban) 17 percent.

A significant distance away are. Jose Apolinario Lozada, Jr. (Pwersa ng Masang Pilipino) and Francisco Tatad (Grand Alliance for Democracy), both 16 percent, Alexander Lacson (Liberal Party) 15 percent, Gilbert Cesar Remulla (Nacionalista Party), 10 percent, Ramon Mitra (Nacionalista Party) and Danilo Lim (Independent), both 9 percent, and Adel Tamano (Nacionalista Party) 8 percent.
