De Castro, Villar, Legarda, Escudero top recommendees for 2010

VICE President Noli De Castro and senators Manny Villar, Loren Legarda and Francis Escudero are the people’s top recommended successors to President Gloria Arroyo in 2010, according to the latest Social Weather Stations survey.

Asked who they think are good leaders who should succeed Arroyo when her term expires next year, 27 percent of the 1,200 adults polled in the nationwide SWS survey administered on Feb. 20-23 named De Castro, 26 percent named Villar, 25 percent named Legarda and 23 percent named Escudero.

The respondents also recommended Sen. Mar Roxas (15 percent), Sen. Panfilo Lacson (14 percent) and former President Joseph Estrada (13 percent).

Four percent mentioned Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, while about 1 percent mentioned senators Richard Gordon, Ramon Revilla Jr., Jinggoy Estrada and Francis Pangilinan, Makati Mayor Jejomar Binay and Metro Manila Development Authority Chairperson Bayani Fernando.

Thirteen percent could not give an answer, and 7 percent had no one to recommend.

The SWS did not provide the respondents a list of names.

Compared to December 2008, the mentions rose for Roxas by 5 points; Sen. Escudero, 4 points; Santiago 3 points;  and Estrada, 2 points, according to SWS.

The mentions went down for De Castro, by 4 points; Legarda, 3 points; and Villar, 1 point.
