After an 8.8-magnitude earthquake hit the Kamtachka Peninsula in Russia on July 29, a slew of tsunami videos generated using artificial intelligence are being spread by various Filipino social media users.

As early as July 30, at least three Facebook users had circulated made-up clips of tsunamis that supposedly hit following the major tremor. One of the videos bore the following caption:

“Grabe pala ‘yong tsunami sa Russia pagkatapos ng lindol (The tsunami that hit Russia after the earthquake was terrible).”

The short videos showed multiple alleged footage of tsunami waves devastating countries such as Russia, Japan and Hawaii in the United States.

Several videos online are showing alleged tsunami waves hitting countries after a major earthquake in Russia. These were all made using AI.

These clips are all fake. Red flags caught by VERA Files Fact Check revealed telltale signs that prove these videos were created using AI.

A reverse image search also revealed that the original publishers of these videos: YouTube channels AI_reelhub, GogglesOn2025 and Instagram page aliaboutine – all admit that they use AI in the videos they upload.

The fake videos continue to circulate after the Krasheninnikov Volcano in Russia erupted days after the earthquake. Experts say the tremor contributed to the eruption of the volcano which had been dormant for over 500 years.

The FB users’ videos collectively garnered over 8,160 reactions, 1,270 comments, 1,640 shares and 3.6 million views.
