A short video on Facebook (FB) showing severe flooding in Balintawak, a district in Quezon City, is making the rounds online amid the onslaught of Typhoon Enteng. This video was taken in July in the aftermath of Typhoon Carina.
Published on Sept. 2, an FB page published the video with the following caption:
“Grabe yong baha sa balintawak (The flood in Balintawak is so bad)”
The 39-second FB Reel was attributed to TikTok user jamaikusainungkang, now named jamphilip_1986. It showed people wading through the waist-deep flood in Balintawak including the person recording the video who said the area looks like the sea with its high flood level.
This needs context. A cursory look at their profile page revealed that the original video was published in July when torrential Habagat or monsoon rainstorms hit the country amid super typhoon Carina, not Typhoon Enteng which dumped rain and caused flooding this week.
Still, FB users under the comments section of the video were misled and believed that the video was taken just days ago.
The short video emerged amid heavy rainfall brought by Typhoon Enteng, which is now out of the Philippine area of responsibility, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration’s Sept. 4 tropical cyclone bulletin.
FB page Motodrive vlogs (created on June 30, 2023) published the video, garnering over 590 reactions, 240 comments, 460 shares and 73,000 views.
