Several viral posts on Facebook (FB) are erroneously claiming it is a clip of a fire in Cubao, Quezon City that allegedly happened last week.

Published as early as April 7, the spurious video was published by various FB pages and users. One post bore the caption: “April 7, 2025. Araneta, Cubao this morning lang po yan (just this morning)!”

The 16-second video initially showed a wide shot of a burning establishment with black smoke billowing, occasionally zooming in on the debris engulfed in flames.

This is false. A reverse image search revealed that the original video used in these spurious posts was posted two years ago.

In 2023, GMA News published a video taken by one of their citizen journalists showing the bus terminal at Araneta Center Cubao burning and spreading to a nearby food and amusement park.

In the accompanying news item, it was reported that one person was injured before the Bureau of Fire Protection declared the incident under control.

The misleading video made the rounds online as the summer heat continued to intensify around the country with some regions experiencing a heat index above 40 degrees Celsius, according to the weather bureau.

Several FB pages and users – including pages Idol Joy Vlog (created on Dec. 8, 2021) and MagicStone (Dec. 12, 2020) – published the video with the false caption, collectively garnering over 1,500 reactions, 190 comments, 3,170 shares and 758,000 views.
