DESPITE the string of natural disasters that struck the country, more Filipinos expect a more prosperous Christmas this year than a year ago, and a big majority is looking forward to 2010 with hope, a Pulse Asia survey said.

The research organization’s October 22 to 30 poll found 29 percent of its 1,800  adult respondents saying the coming Christmas will be more prosperous this year than the 20 percent it recorded in its October 2008 survey. The optimists are found mostly in Eastern Visayas and Region 11 (Southern Mindanao).

However, half (49 percent) feel Christmas 2009 will be no different from what they had a year ago, according to the survey.

Pulse Asia reported that nearly nine in 10 Filipinos (86%) say they will face the year 2010 with hope, an 8-point increase from its October 2008 findings.
