CORDOVA, Cebu — “Remain faithful to your commitment to protect the votes of the people of Cordova. Good luck and God bless.”

With these words, Fr. Roman Alaan blessed and sent off the election volunteers of Cebu-Citizens Involvement and Maturation in People’s Empowerment and Liberation (C-CIMPEL).

The political action arm of the Archdiocese of Cebu, C-CIMPEL has been guarding the vote of the Cebuanos since the snap elections in 1986.

The group’s chapter here in Cordova is strongly supported by the local San Roque Parish.

About 146 volunteers will be deployed tomorrow in all 51 clustered precincts in the municipality, manning voter’s assistance centers and functioning as poll watchers among other tasks.

Some volunteers had backed out, however, after supposedly being offered paid gigs to distribute sample ballots on election day.

With more than 2.7 million registered voters, Cebu is the top vote-rich province in the country.
