VERA Files, in cooperation with ABS-CBN News and Current Affairs and Unlimited Productions Inc., presents the documentary “Silang May Mga Kapansanan,” a special report on the program Krusada hosted by veteran broadcast journalist Karen Davila.

The documentary features different cases of persons with disability (PWDs)—a child with cerebral palsy, siblings with unexplained mental and physical impairments, residents of a community who became amputees as a result of the war in Mindanao.

The team travelled from Marikina to Mabini in Bohol province and Pikit in North Cotabato and talked to PWDs who lament discrimination that keeps them in the margins of society.

The documentary also tells stories of hope, of PWDs and their families who persevere despite the odds. It focuses on the Fully Abled Nation campaign of different NGOs to give voice to PWDs by getting them to register and vote in the coming 2013 elections. The documentary was supported by The Asia Foundation and Australian Agency for International Development.

“Silang May Mga Kapansanan” airs this Thursday, July 26, after “Bandila” on ABS-CBN, and earlier on DZMM TeleRadyo (SkyCable Channel 26), 9:15 p.m. It replays on Friday, July 27, 4:30 a.m. on Channel 2, and Saturday, July 28, 1:30 p.m. on ANC.
