Yet another video compilation of footage supposedly taken during the earthquake in Hualien,Taiwan this week is making the rounds on Facebook (FB). This is misleading as some of the clips are from a previous quake.
On April 3, an FB page published the spurious video that bore the headline:
“Please pray for #Taiwan #earthquakeintaiwan Earthquake in Taiwan April 3 2024.”
The two-minute video showed various clips supposedly taken when a devastating earthquake struck Taiwan this week. The footage included different structures and hanging objects shaking vigorously while people can be heard screaming and panicking in the background.
A reverse image search revealed that at least three clips in this compilation were taken during an earthquake that hit the country two years earlier.
These videos were published when a 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Taiwan in 2022.
The video of a huge chandelier rapidly swinging inside a building was taken in Taichung, Taiwan and was published by the official YouTube channel of Manila Bulletin Online. It showed the effects of the earthquake on the 60th floor of a building in Kaohsiung.

Originally published by a Twitter user, another video taken during the 2022 earthquake showed water pipes bursting in a building in New Taipei City, drenching people with water.
The video that showed a person standing on a shaking scaffolding was also taken at the height of the 2022 quake and was published by Taiwan News.
This spurious video emerged on the day the 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the city of Hualien, dubbed as the strongest earthquake that ever hit Taiwan in 25 years.
FB page Marse ng Rizal Vlogs published the video, garnering over 430 reactions, 45 comments, 400 shares and 40,000 views.
