THE race for the vice presidency will be tight if it were held today.

Pulse Asia’s July 28 to Aug. 10 survey showed Filipinos split between Senators Francis Escudero (21 percent) and Loren Legarda (19 percent). Vice President Noli de Castro (15 percent), Makati City Mayor Jejomar Binay (12 percent) and Sen. Francis Pangilinan (12 percent) also enjoyed nearly the same levels of public support for the bids for the vice presidency, it said.

Metro Manilans are most inclined to elect Escudero. Escudero and Legarda are the leading candidates in the rest of Luzon and Mindanao. Visayans are most supportive of De Castro.

The survey also found that the poorest Filipinos were most supportive of Legarda while the richest were equally supportive of Escudero, Legarda and Binay. Escudero led in Class D.

As in the presidential race, practically all voters already have a vice presidential candidate in mind, said Pulse Asia.
