TWO out of three voting-age Filipinos are against amending the Constitution to allow President Gloria Arroyo to continue as the country’s chief executive after her term expires on June 30, 2010, according to the Social Weather Stations.
The SWS, which conducted the survey in the first quarter of this year, said the proportion is about the same as its September-October 2008 survey which found 64 percent opposed to such a constitutional amendment.
The research organization reported “somewhat increased” opposition in Mindanao and in Luzon and “somewhat decreased” opposition in Metro Manila and in the Visayas.
Opposition rose from 54 percent to 66 percent in Mindanao and from 62 percent to 66 percent in Luzon. But opposition fell from 78 percent to 72 percent in Metro Manila and from 70 percent to 62 percent in the Visayas.
Opposition remained high in all classes, rising from 67 percent to 69 percent in class ABC, from 63 percent to 67 percent in class D, and from 66 percent to 64 percent in class E.
