Ang Ladlad stages ‘I’m moral’ rally

CHANTING and holding up placards that read “I am moral,” gay party-list advocates on Wednesday staged a protest rally at the Commission on Elections and asked the poll body to reconsider its ruling rejecting Ang Ladlad’s bid to be accredited as a party-list group representing lesbians, gays, bisexuals and transgenders.

The Comelec had disqualified Ang Ladlad on grounds of “immorality, which offends religious beliefs.”

Ang Ladlad head and Ateneo de Manila University professor Danton Remoto said his party is fighting for the political and constitutional rights of gays.

The rally drew support from various groups and individuals including Akbayan party-list Rep. Loretta Ann “Etta” Rosales, UP Babaylan and Likhaan, Society of Transexuals of the Philippines, Lesbian Advocates of the Philippines and It’s OK to be Gay.
