Multiple Facebook (FB) pages are claiming that a sporting goods store is offering a promotional discount for its products. This is fake. These are scams and the company has disowned the posts.

Since Feb 2, netizens have been bombarded with promos supposedly from sporting goods retailer Decathlon. The posts claim that the local distributor of the French giant is selling Nike backpacks at a discounted price.

Bearing a photo of a backpack alongside a receipt, the posts read:

Yung kapatid ko na nagtatrabaho sa Dесаthlоn, nag-share sakin ng sobrang gandang info! Kung magko-complete ka ng short form, makakakuha ka ng Nіkе Еlеmеntаl bасkрасk for just ₱120! Dесаthlоn is ending their contract with Nіkе, kaya kailangan nilang i-clear yung remaining stocks bago matapos ang buwan.

(My sibling who works at Decathlon shared some really good info! If you complete this short form, you will get a Nike Elemental backpack for just ₱120. Dесаthlоn is ending their contract with Nіkе so they need to clear the remaining stocks before the month ends).”

These scams lead netizens to a dubious website that asks them to complete a survey and share their personal information.

Impostor Facebook pages are spreading fake promos of a sporting goods retailer to scam the public. The company has disowned the discount promos and advised netizens to monitor updates from their official website and pages.

In a Feb.10 FB post, Decathlon Philippines said they are not offering such promo:

“You may have noticed several posts like this recently. This is a FAKE post! Decathlon Philippines does not sell any products outside of our own brands unless explicitly announced from our official pages.”

Such scam posts are not new. VERA Files Fact Check previously debunked similar scams that follow the same phishing modus to steal the personal information of netizens.

Posted by FB pages Marianna Santos, Katherine Morales, Grace Rivera and Patricia Louise Fernandez, which were all created last month, the bogus posts received 11,944 interactions.
