A post on Facebook (FB) is claiming that the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has opened slots for job aspirants this year. This is false. The PCG said they have yet to begin recruitment.
Published on Jan. 25, an FB page published the post which read:
“PHILIPPINE COAST GUARD Nationwide Hiring 2025. Please submit your Application to PCG Head Quarters. BE ONE OF US BE PART OF PCG 2025. APPLY NOW AND SECURE YOUR SLOT”
The post carried a graphic listing the qualifications for unspecified positions for officer, non-officer and staff, offering a monthly salary of P46,800. There is also a link where potential hires can supposedly apply.
This is erroneous. The PCG put out a warning against any posts claiming such. The inserted link also only leads to an unrelated e-commerce site.
In an FB post published the same day the false information emerged, the country’s third armed uniformed service said: “The PCG recruitment for 2025 has not yet commenced. We will announce through our official channels once the process begins. It is important to note that the PCG does not require any form of payment during the recruitment process.”
It also stated that only the official FB page of the Coast Guard Human Resource Management Command is authorized to give out information about possible job openings in the PCG.
The PCG cautioned the public against entertaining any unauthorized online social media pages announcing alleged hiring on behalf of the service.
The post with the false job announcement continues to circulate as the PCG reported an increase in online trolls targeting government social media pages amid increased transparency efforts on the West Philippines Sea.
FB page PRC Updates (created on May 6, 2023) published the spurious post, garnering over 350 reactions, 115 comments and 300 shares.
