Days after Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) members blocked a major Davao City highway to protest the charges against their leader Apollo Quiboloy, a Facebook (FB) Reel circulated claiming to show footage of the event. The short video was given false context.

The video does not feature KOJC members protesting in Davao. The clip was taken in Kenya and shows a rally against a proposed bill in June.

Published on Aug. 27 by an FB user, the 17-second Reel showed a huge crowd marching in the street in broad daylight while shouting and chanting. The following text was superimposed on it: “Yan na po davao ngaun? (Is this Davao now?)”

A reverse image search revealed that this was taken in a different country.

The original video was published on TikTok on June 20 by the account @dannyigiza. It showed people in Nakuru city, Kenya rallying against the passing of the Finance Bill in their country. It bore the caption: “Nakuru well represented #rejectfainancebill2024 (sic) #Nakuru #kenya”

Still, social media users under the comment section of the spurious “Davao” video – and even @dannyigiza‘s video – believed that it was taken during the recent standoff between KOJC members and the Philippine National Police.

This short video with an untrue context surfaced amid the police’s ongoing search for Quiboloy. The fugitive religious leader is facing a number of charges including sex trafficking of women and girls.

The FB user’s Reel has garnered over 2,500 reactions, 1,300 comments, 460 shares and 182,000 views.
