A video on Facebook allegedly showing a local protest calling for the resignation of President Ferdinand Marcos is not true. It was given a false context.
On Oct. 12, two FB pages published the spurious video. One of them bore the following caption: “Happening now. Marcos resign rally, October 12, 2025.”
The nine-second video shows a crowd of densely packed people walking down a long street. The clip was taken from a high vantage point, by someone on a metal bridge alongside several other people.
A reverse image search revealed that the original video was taken in a different country, not in the Philippines.

TikTok user bimaltharu66 first published the video on Sept. 8 with the following caption: “Current situation [in] Baneshwor.” Baneshwor is the largest residential district in Kathmandu, Nepal.
On Sept. 8, “Generation Z” demonstrators gathered on the streets of Kathmundu to push for the reopening of recently shut social media platforms and to protest against government corruption. The rally turned violent after authorities clashed with the protesters, according to Nepali news reports.
VERA Files Fact Check debunked a similar false claim that used a different protest video in Malaysia. (Read FACT CHECK: Video shows protest in Malaysia, NOT ‘Marcos resign’ rally)
FB pages Mr. Jackiee (Oct. 4, 2022) and BuzzedTv (May 21, 2025) published the video with the wrong context, collectively garnering over 2,200 reactions, 550 comments, 660 shares and 314,000 views.
