TWENTY-seven years after the downfall of strongman Ferdinand Marcos, the country remains in the grip this time of “small dictatorships” that come in the guise of political dynasties that impede the country’s development.

So saying, the civil society group Anti-Dynasty Movement Tuesday asked the Commission on Elections to enforce the constitutional ban on political dynasties and disqualify six candidates from four political families who it said are “clear and obvious cases” of political dynasties.

The six are Rodrigo Duterte of Davao City, Dennis Pineda of Pampanga, Miguel and Luis Villafuerte of Camarines Sur, and brothers Rexlon and Sherwin Gatchalian of Valenzuela City.
