THE administration coalition Team PNoy asked the public for leeway over a social media campaign launched by senatorial candidate Maria Ana Consuelo Madrigal that election officials say may have violated the Omnibus Election Code.

Team PNoy spokesman and Marikina Representative Miro Quimbo said at a press conference Wednesday there are still many gray areas related to social media, and there are no clear rules on what candidates and their staff can and cannot do online.

“We appeal to everyone to give some leeway as far as it is concerned,” Quimbo pleaded, saying election laws may need to be updated to deal with campaigning over the Internet and on social media.
