Pianist Carmencita Aspiras sets series of concerts

Internationally-acclaimed pianist Carmencita “Chita” Sipin Aspiras is ready to once again conquer the stage and captivate her audience starting Feb. 18 at the Ayala Museum together with the Singaporean conductor Darrell Ang and the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra.

On Feb. 24, she will be with violinist Sara Maria Gonzales and cellist John Paolo Anorico in a Chamber music series at Silliman University.

On March 1 in she will be the featured artist at Manila Pianos and on March 4, she will be at the University of the Philippines Visayas in Iloilo.

In these concerts, Aspiras will enthrall the audience with her artistry and passion for the piano honed since she was a 11.

The piano legend has an immense love for chamber music. She believes that through this genre, one has the opportunity to excellently develop musicianship and keen sensitivity. For her, the collaboration of different instruments and the conspiring minds of musicians, having the exchange of insights and ideas, is what makes it an exciting musical adventure. “The young musician may find playing chamber music an exploration of aspects not found in solo playing, like widening one’s approach to tonal and interpretative aspects that suit the overall mood,” she said.

Despite her vast experience performing in the culturally-rich continent of Europe and numerous awards she got, Aspiras still has an ultimate dream she aims to achieve.

“The piano repertoire is so vast that a lifetime is too short to delve into all. If I have to consider learning anything in the near future, I would go for Beethoven’s Sonatas which I had neglected and Bach’s Well-Tempered Clavier,” she shared.

Aspiras reminds the classically trained pianists of today to keep playing because the piano is a mechanical instrument capable of singing. In her own words “Keep experimenting in your attempt to produce a singing tone. The singing voice with its inflection is ideal for us musicians.”
