PRESS Secretary Cerge Remonde confirmed Saturday the $20,000 or almost P1 million dinner President Gloria Arroyo had at New York’s posh Le Cirque restaurant earlier this week during her working visit to the U.S., but said Malacanang did not foot the bill.

“Yes, I was there. It was on the invitation of Cong Martin Romualdez. Malacañang did not pay for it,” Remonde said in a text message. Romualdez represents Leyte in Congress.

The New York Post on Aug. 7 reported the “good life” of the Arroyo entourage, saying the president ordered bottles of “very expensive” wine, which pushed the dinner tab up to $20,000.
