Sa ikalawang taon ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, nagbigay ng hudyat ang administrasyong Duterte na “magbabago” na ng diskarte ang bansa sa 2022 mula sa isang “pandemic paradigm” tungo sa pamumuhay na kasama ang banta ng virus.
“Ang aming patakaran na ligtas na muling buksan ang ekonomiya ay pinabilis ang ating pagbangon at pinagaan ang epekto ng pandemya sa mga mahihirap,” sabi sa Ingles ni Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Karl Kendrick Chua sa isang press conference noong Disyembre noong nakaraang taon.
Gayunpaman, sa pagbibigay-diin sa “kambal na banta” ng mga Delta at Omicron virus variant na nakapanghahawa ngayon sa publiko, nagbabala si World Health Organization Director-General Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus na ang virus ay “patuloy na magbabago at pagbabantaan ang ating mga sistema ng kalusugan kung hindi natin pagbubutihin ang pangkalahatang tugon.”
