VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Post claiming Elago wants to abolish ‘hindrances to CPP, NPA’ MISLEADS
This is a malicious spin on an actual statement made by Elago.
This is a malicious spin on an actual statement made by Elago.
One publisher falsely claimed “even the best Photoshop editor” would not have been able to manipulate it.
The woman in the four-year-old image was an NPA guerilla using the nom de guerre Comrade Katyrn.
The statement is in fact a rough Filipino translation of some lines from a poem by Lebanese-American author Kahlil Gibran.
Calling for the ouster of Kabataan Partylist Rep. Sarah Elago, a Facebook (FB) user reposted on July 16 a fake graphic with a quote from the solon saying she will support the New People’s Army (NPA) — the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP)’s armed wing — "if need be” and that people should not care if she joins their ranks.
There's no record of her saying such a thing.
It was photoshopped using two images.
The legislator made no such remark.
