At least three quote cards are claiming that Mamayang Liberal Rep. Leila de Lima slammed the Supreme Court and advised the justices to study the law again following their final decision declaring unconstitutional the 2025 impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte. This is fake.

There are no reports of De lima making such a remark. In a Facebook post, the congresswoman dismissed the claims as fake.

The first post surfaced as early as Feb. 2, uploaded by an FB page. The graphic card bore a side-by-side image of De lima along with her supposed statement:

NAKAKAHIYA NAMAN COURT JUSTICES KAYO, HINDI NIYO ALAM ANG BATAS” REP. LEILA DE LIMA PINAYUHAN KORTE SUPREMA NA ARALIN MULI ANG BATAS”

(SHAME ON YOU COURT JUSTICES, YOU DON’T KNOW THE LAW REP. LEILA DE LIMA ADVISES SUPREME COURT TO STUDY THE LAW AGAIN)

The beginning of the caption of the fabricated post further stated:

Hindi itinago ni Rep. Leila de Lima ang kanyang pagtutol sa naging desisyon ng Supreme Court of the Philippines na ibasura ang impeachment case laban kay Sara Duterte. Para kay De Lima, ang naturang ruling ay hindi lamang simpleng legal na pasya, kundi isang desisyong may seryosong implikasyon sa pananagutan ng mga matataas na opisyal ng bansa.

(Rep. Leila de Lima did not hide her opposition to the decision of the Supreme Court of the Philippines dismissing the impeachment case against Sara Duterte. For De Lima, the ruling is not just a simple legal ruling, but a decision that has serious implications on the accountability of the country’s high-ranking officials.)

Two separate FB pages posted a similar quote card using different photos of De Lima within a few hours of each other on Feb. 5. Both carried the same fake statement and copy-pasted the bogus caption.

ML Rep. Leila de Lima did not say SC justices should study the law again after declaring the 2025 impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte unconstitutional. There are no official reports that she made such a statement. On Feb. 7, De Lima herself debunked the circulating fake posts on her official Facebook page.

In a Feb. 7 post on her official FB page, De Lima debunked the claims and clarified she never made the statement.

“This is FAKE news. I did NOT make this statement. Mag-ingat at maging mapanuri po tayo. Ipinakakalat ang ganitong kasinungalingan sa social media para ilihis tayo sa tunay na isyu at sa kung ano ang totoo. Alam natin kung sino ang natutuwa at nakikinabang sa ganitong mga paninira at fake news!,” she wrote.

(Let’s be careful and critical. These lies are spread on social media to divert us from the real issue and what is true. We know who enjoys and benefits from this slander and fake news!)

The legislator also called on the public to report posts and pages that are spreading the malicious quote.

The spurious posts surfaced after the SC unanimously denied with finality the House of Representatives’ motion to reverse its July 25, 2025 decision that declared the Articles of Impeachment against Duterte unconstitutional.

In a separate statement on Jan. 30, De Lima said the decision of the SC “appears to be a derogation of the House’s constitutional powers and prerogatives.” Three new impeachment complaints have been filed against Duterte for graft and corruption, among others, as of Feb. 9.

The fake post published by FB page Pinoy Celebrity News garnered 30,000 reactions, 6,900 comments, and 476 shares. Other copies shared by FB pages Checklist Studio and Real Talk collectively received 13,006 reactions, 4,906 comments, and 756 shares.
