A video posted on Facebook is claiming that former vice president, now Naga City mayor, Leni Robredo showed up in a protest against anomalies and corruption in government. This is false.

The FB video combined clips of two different events held on Sept. 12. Edited in a split-screen format, the video on the upper half was taken during the Peñafrancia Traslacion in Naga City, Camarines Sur, while the second footage on the bottom half showed the Black Friday protest at the University of the Philippines campus in Diliman, Quezon City.

Posted on Sept. 14, the spurious video had an overlaid text that read:

Leni Robredo kasama sa Protesta my balak to sa 2028 (Leni Robredo joins the protest, she must have plans for 2028)”

Its caption also claimed:

Leni Robredo kasama sa Protesta Tudo supporta sa mga nag rally my plano ata to sa 2028 (Leni Robredo joins the protest, showing full support for the rallyists. She might have plans for 2028)

#CorruptPoliticians
#Corruption
#corruptgovernment”

Former vice president Leni Robredo did not join a protest rally against corruption in government. The video combined clips from two different events on Sept. 12: the Peñafrancia Traslacion in Naga City, Camarines Sur, which Robredo attended, and the Black Friday protest at the UP campus in Diliman, Quezon City.

Through ah reverse image search, VERA Files found at least two TikTok users who uploaded similar videos, showing Robredo walking with other devotees and pilgrims during the Traslacion procession of the image of Our Lady of Peñafrancia.

Another FB user uploaded a similar clip, capturing Robredo during the religious event from a different angle.

The official FB pages of Robredo and the Naga City Tourism Office posted several photos where devotees could be seen surrounding the city’s first female mayor, with some even trying to take pictures with her.

A reverse image search likewise reveals that the Kabataan Party-list originally published the second footage used by the fraudulent FB video on Sept. 12. The video showed an actual protest where UP Diliman students wearing black shirts chanted “Ikulong na ‘yan, mga kurakot” (Jail them already, those corrupt people).

More than 3,000 students, faculty, staff, and other community members joined the protest to denounce several alleged corruption in the Department of Public Works and Highways and delayed infrastructure projects in the university.

Robredo, however, was in Naga City at the time and did not participate in the Black Friday protest. Contrary to the claims implied in the FB video, the former vice president said last year that she has no plans to run for president in 2028.

The video with wrong context surfaced two days after around 500,000 devotees showed their devotion to Our Lady of Peñafrancia in the 2025 Traslacion procession in Naga City.

Published by FB page DALJEC VLOGS (created on May 26, 2023), the inaccurate reel has been viewed 353,000 times as of writing. It has since garnered 8,100 reactions, 1,300 comments and 834 shares.
