Research is mixed on the effects of coffee intake on blood pressure.

Dr. Donald Hensrud of Mayo Clinic said that caffeine can cause short-term spikes but may not have long-term effects on blood pressure. A 2016 study by researchers at the International Medical University in Malaysia also found that coffee intake among young adults increased blood pressure but only for short periods and by an insignificant level.

But a 2022 study by the American Heart Association said that drinking two or more cups of coffee a day may increase the risk of heart disease among people with severe hypertension.

Meanwhile, a 2023 study by German researchers found evidence suggesting that drinking coffee frequently could increase cholesterol levels but may also decrease blood pressure.
