A viral graphic is circulating on Facebook about President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s supposed response to critics calling for his resignation. This is satire.
On July 2, the graphic was posted in a public group with a text that reads:
“KUNG KAILAN TAYO NAKILALA AT UMUNLAD BAKIT NYU AKO GUSTO MAG RESIGN HINDI BA KAYO NATUWA SA AKING MGA GINAWA
-PRES. FERDINAND MARCOS JR.”
(Now that we’ve become recognized and made progress, why do you want me to resign? Aren’t you happy with what I’ve done?”
— President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.)
There is no public record of such a statement by Marcos. The image itself has a “satire” hashtag and disclaimer after the first half of the caption, which read:
(🚨😱‼️BREAKING NEWS: “Now that we’ve finally made progress, this is when you want to remove me from office.”
President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. believes that the country has gained recognition because of his administration’s proper governance. He said that people should be happy because life will become more comfortable, with no more hunger or thirst, as his administration will continue all of its programs.)
The caption also stated that Marcos said the Philippines has officially attained upper middle-income country status after nearly four decades. He said the achievement reflects the resilience of the Filipino people and the impact of the economic policies implemented by his administration.
Despite the satire label, netizens were still misled into believing the claim was true, leaving comments mocking Marcos, such as:
“Pabayaan na lang ang di natuwa. Ang importante marami ka nagawa. We are happy.” (Just ignore those who aren’t happy. What matters is that you’ve done a lot. We’re happy.)
“Mas matuwa pa kami pag mg resign kayo po. 🤣”
(We’d be much happier if you resigned. 🤣)
“Paano kami matutuwa mula ng ikaw ang maupo, wala na akong ayuda. Di bale sana kung di nasimot ang pondo ng bayan. Ano ginawa? Kinuha mo pondo ng Philhealth, benta ka ng ginto at marami pang iba. Asan project? Ghost lahat.”
(How can we be happy? Ever since you took office, I haven’t received any government aid anymore. It would’ve been fine if the country’s funds hadn’t been drained. What did you do? You took PhilHealth’s funds, sold the country’s gold, and many other things. Where are the projects? They’re all ghost projects.)
“Umunlad ng buhay niyo mga maleta gang!” (Your lives improved, Maleta Gang!)
“ANG MAGNANAKAW NA MGA ASO MO LANG UMUNLAD. NOTHING FOR THE EVERYDAY FILIPINOS. ABNORMAL MARCOS.”
(ONLY YOUR THIEVING DOGS HAVE PROGRESSED. NOTHING FOR THE REGULAR FILIPINOS. ABNORMAL MARCOS.)

The satirical post circulated online after Marcos welcomed the Philippines’ designation as an upper-middle-income country by the World Bank on July 2. The photo used in the post’s graphic card was screengrabbed from the video posted by the president on his official Facebook account announcing the reclassification of the country’s economic status.
