A Facebook post is circulating online claiming that drivers over 70 years old will be subjected to new license renewal guidelines. This is false.
On Feb. 23, two FB pages published a graphic with a photo of President Ferdinand Marcos and text spread out on the image that read:
“Bagong mga panuntunan sa lisensya sa mahigit 70s! Simula Marso 2026. Dapat mong malaman ngayon!
(New license renewal guidelines for drivers over 70 years old! Starting March 2026. You need to know this now)!”
Part of the caption also stated that the guidelines are designed to strengthen road safety while protecting the dignity and independence of elderly motorists and did not mean senior citizens are automatically disqualified from driving. It read:
“The Land Transportation Office (LTO) is implementing enhanced medical assessments, mandatory CDE validation exams, and clearer renewal procedures to ensure every driver remains fit for today’s evolving traffic conditions.”
In the comments section of both posts is a link that leads to a full article on separate websites with the exact same text, detailing the supposed changes, including on medical examination and comprehensive driver’s education requirements.
However, there is no official announcement from the Land Transportation Office (LTO) confirming this. On their official Facebook page, published Feb. 25, the agency clarified that the posts are fake and asked the public to check on news updates only through its website or FB page.

The provisions under Republic Act No. 10930, including the 10-year license validity for drivers with clean records and renewal periods remain the same regardless of age.
The last announcement from LTO on this subject was when it launched the digital driver’s license renewal via the eGovPH app on July 10, 2025.
The post surfaced after a number of road crashes involving senior citizens, although not necessarily as drivers, were reported.
According to data from the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group, there were 19,550 recorded road crash incidents in the Philippines from January to August 2025. However, there is no record of how many of these were committed by elderly drivers.
The post by FB pages Hey Pinoy Celebs (created June 27, 2023) with 97,000 followers as of writing and Showbiz Heat PH (Dec. 17, 2025) collectively garnered 3,803 reactions; 354 shares, and 1,697 comments.
