A Facebook user posted a rehashed news clip claiming that the Philippine National Police (PNP) is plotting to unseat President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. This is false.

The news clip used in the reel was intentionally cut to make it appear that it was about a recent plan to oust the chief executive. In a Facebook advisory, the PNP tagged the circulating video as fake.

Published on Nov. 14, the bogus video included a photo of Marcos Jr. on top of the frame with a news report from News5’s program Frontline Pilipinas underneath. Anchor Cheryl Cosim can then be heard saying:

Pinaplano ang PNP na patalsikin si Pangulong Marcos.’Yan ang sinisiguro ni acting PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartates”

(The PNP is planning to oust President Marcos. That’s what acting PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartates assured.)

The 15-second reel also contained a superimposed text that read:

“PATALSIKIN SI BBM PLANO NG MGA KAPULISAN!!!”

(THE POLICE PLANNING TO OUST BBM!!!)

There is no plot by the Philippine National Police to oust President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. A news report from Oct. 6, 2025 was intentionally cut to mislead netizens. The PNP-CADG also tagged the circulating clip as fake.

A combination of keyword and reverse image searches reveals that the clip was taken from the first portion of a news report published on Oct. 6, 2025, on News5’s YouTube channel. The original segment was about the acting national police chief clarifying that there were no calls among active or retired police personnel to oust the president.

Nartates issued the statement amid coup rumors after Marcos appointed him as the new PNP chief, replacing Nicolas Torre III. Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Romeo Brawner Jr. previously confirmed on Oct. 4 that some retired officers had urged the military to withdraw its support from the president, but the armed forces rejected the call.

In the actual report, Cosim stated: “Walang pinaplano ang PNP na patalsikin si Pangulong Marcos. ‘Yan ang sinisiguro ni acting PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartates” (The PNP has no plans to remove President Marcos from office. That is what acting PNP Chief Jose Melencio Nartates assures).

A closer look at the video also shows a screen behind the anchor with a text stating “Walang kudeta” (No coup).

In a Nov. 16 advisory on Facebook, the PNP- Police Community Affairs and Development Group tagged the circulating video as fake and encouraged netizens to report the clip.

The false video surfaced amid calls from some groups for Marcos to resign over corruption scandals involving hundreds of anomalous flood control projects.

As of writing, the video posted by a Facebook user (created Nov. 13, 2021) had so far received 493,000 views, 4,500 reactions, 1,100 comments, and 454 shares.
