A video posted twice by a Facebook page is claiming the Department of Education has issued a memorandum on the supposed implementation of online classes in all schools nationwide starting Sept. 1. This is fake and the video was generated using artificial intelligence.

The DepEd published no such memorandum or order on its official website.

Published on Aug. 30, the spurious video bore an overlaid text that read:

DEPED ONLINE CLASS SA BUONG PILIPINAS

DEPED ONLINE CLASS SIMULA SA LUNES SEPTEMBER 1, 2025

(DepEd online classes nationwide

DepEd online classes starting Monday, September 1, 2025)”

A link to the supposed DepEd memorandum was also provided in the caption of the FB post.

DepEd did not publish any memorandum or order on its official website regarding the implementation of online classes in all schools nationwide starting Sept. 1. The circulating FB video was generated using artificial intelligence.

A simple keyword search on DepEd’s official FB page shows no announcement directing elementary and secondary schools in the country to shift to online learning mode starting Sept. 1. There are also no credible media reports to support this claim.

VERA Files ran the video through the AI detection tool, Hive Moderation, and found it to have an 82.2% likelihood of being AI-generated.

Telltale signs of AI manipulation are evident such as the speaker’s unnaturally fast way of speaking and mispronunciation of the word “module.” In the latter part of the video, the mouth movements of the speaker doesn’t match the audio as he says, “dito sa post namin.”

The supposed news anchor’s lower set of teeth is also smoothened, not distinguishable and resembles a white patch. The Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU), part of the India-based Misinformation Combat Alliance, which verifies harmful or misleading audio and video content produced using AI, previously told VERA Files that this kind of dental arrangement is “a common element of AI tampering.”

The link included in the post’s caption is clickbait that redirects users to a product page on an online shopping site, not to any DepEd memorandum.

On Aug. 25, the DepEd released Department Memorandum No. 072, s. 2025, directing schools to “ensure learning continuity by implementing structured and sustainable interventions, including the use of Alternative Delivery Modes (ADMs), where feasible, when face-to-face classes are suspended.” Nowhere in the memorandum did DepEd mention the alleged nationwide implementation of online classes starting this September 2025.

The memorandum cited DepEd Order No. 22, s. 2024, issued in December 2024, which required schools to develop a detailed learning and service continuity plan to prepare for class suspensions due to calamities and emergencies such as typhoons, heavy rainfall and flood, earthquakes, and extreme heat conditions, among others.

The directive also authorizes school heads to decide which ADMs—online learning and modular learning—would be implemented when face-to-face classes are suspended.

VERA Files has previously fact-checked bogus claims attributed to the Education department.

Posted by FB page Edukasyon News Channel (created on Aug. 10, 2025), the AI-generated videos have been viewed by over 2.7 million times collectively. They have garnered 14,100 reactions, 2,629 comments, and 7,039 shares as of writing.
