Several Facebook users are quoting a statement by Sen. Erwin Tulfo calling for politicians to stop meddling in flood control funds, claiming that the senator wants to stop the probe into anomalies in flood control projects. This is misleading.

Since July 10, at least five netizens have shared various posts on flooding overlaid with a video of Tulfo where the senator said:

“‘Wag na natin pakialaman ‘yung flood control na yan. Leave it to DPWH. Ngayon kung meron kayong mga pork barrel diyan, i-donate niyo na lahat sa DPWH. Anong kinalaman ng senador, kongresista? Wala. No. Ang gusto ko lamang po, ma’am, let DPWH do the job. Give the money to DPWH. Para walang sisihan, ‘diba?

(Let’s stop meddling with flood control projects. Leave them to DPWH. If you have any pork barrel funds, donate all of them to DPWH. What does a senator or a congressman have to do with them? Nothing. None. All I want, ma’am, is to let DPWH do the job. Give the money to DPWH so there’s no finger-pointing, right)?”

One post claimed that Tulfo wanted to end the investigations into the flood control issue. Another netizen wrote the caption:

“WAG NA PAKIALAMAN ANG FLOOD CONTROL ISYO (sic)? Ayon kay senator Erwin tulfo wag na paki-alam ang isyo (sic) ng flood control dahil hindi trabaho ng senator at congresista. Ganun na lang ba senator Erwin tulfo, Diba trabaho nyo dapat ang imbistigahan (sic) ang isyo (sic) na yan? Ikaw bilang pilipino, anung (sic) masabi mo kay Erwin tulfo?

(Don’t meddle with the flood control issue? According to Sen. Erwin Tulfo, the flood control issue should no longer be interfered with because it is not the job of senators or congressmen. Is that really your position, Sen. Erwin Tulfo? Isn’t it your job to investigate issues like this? As a Filipino, what do you have to say to Erwin Tulfo)?”

Tulfo’s statement was referring to legislators and other politicians meddling in flood control projects, not to the investigations into the flood control issue. NewsWatch Plus PH published the full clip of the 2025 interview, where the senator said he would push for an inquiry and will ensure that flood control projects are implemented by the national government through the Department of Public Works and Highways, not congressmen or senators.

Tulfo emphasized that lawmakers should stop intervening in allotments during budget deliberations and leave the implementation of flood control projects to DPWH.

“Don’t let politicians handle flood control. The flood control budget just ends up in their pockets,” he said.

Sen. Erwin Tulfo called on politicians to stop interfering in the budget and implementation of flood control projects in a 2025 interview, not for an end to the investigations on the anomaly.

Tulfo, who chairs the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, explained on July 5 that a subcommittee led by Sen. Kiko Pangilinan would continue the hearings on flood control projects, focusing on new personalities linked to the scandal. This was in response to critics accusing the Senate majority bloc of covering up the issue and prioritizing the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte.

The misleading posts surfaced after the southwest monsoon enhanced by Typhoon Inday inundated several areas in the country, including Metro Manila,Western Visayas, Northern and Southern Luzon, last weekend.
