A YouTube video claims that Sen. Jinggoy Estrada resigned out of embarrassment after he was linked to the anomalous flood control projects of the Department and Public Works and Highways. This is false.
Estrada did not resign from his post as a senator. The video used a clip of a Senate plenary session where Estrada disputed the testimony of a former DPWH assistant district engineer in Bulacan. Brice Ericson Hernandez said at a hearing of the House Infrastructure Committee on Sept. 9 that Estrada channeled P355 million worth of projects to Hagonoy and Malolos, and took a 30% kickback.
The 41-minute video, published on Sept. 16, carried a thumbnail with a text that read:
“GOODBYE ESTRADA! KAKAPASOK LANG, SENATOR JINGGOY ESTRADA NAIYAK DI KINAYA ANG KAHIHIYAN, TULUYAN NG NAGBITIW SA PWESTO.
(Goodbye Estrada! Just in, Sen. Jinggoy Estrada cried, couldn’t handle embarrassment, went on quitting his post)”
The title of the erroneous clip also stated:
“JINGGOY ESTRADA NAIYAK NAGPAALAM NA, BIGLANG NAG-RESIGN SA PWESTO.
(Jinggoy Estrada cried, bid goodbye, and suddenly resigned his post)“

A reverse image search using the keyframes of the video shows that the clip of Estrada was from the Senate plenary session last Sept. 15, where Estrada hit back at Hernandez.
Estrada vehemently denied Hernandez’s allegation as he maintained that he has nothing to hide. He expressed his willingness to sign a waiver to open his bank accounts for scrutiny.
“I’ve been there, that’s why I am protecting my name. Why should I do such a thing? I would never do such a thing. Was it because I’m actively participating in the Blue Ribbon Committee? Was it because I’m brave? I’m just doing my job,” he said.
As of Sept. 22, Estrada remains a senator, based on the chamber’s official website. Nowhere in the YouTube video did it show that the senator has resigned.
