A viral Facebook post alleging that Sarah Discaya, a contractor embroiled in the flood control projects controversy, took offense at comedian Michael V.’s impersonation of her is false, her legal counsel clarified.

A quick search on Google yields no credible news reports substantiating the FB post’s claims.

Published on Sept. 9, the inaccurate post bore a graphic with a text that read:

“Sarah Discaya reportedly did not appreciate Michael V’s impersonation of her.”

Its caption further alleged that:

“According to her camp, she felt that the act seemed like a direct attack on her image, even if it was meant as a joke. They added that it could be damaging to her reputation, and they are considering possible legal action against the comedian.”

In an ambush interview on Sept. 10, Atty. Cornelio Samaniego III told GMA News that the comedian’s impersonation was “okay” with Discaya.

He added that the controversial contractor had no “violent reaction” to Michael V.’s newest parody character, Ciala Dismaya, featured in the Sept. 14 episode of the country’s longest-running gag show, “Bubble Gang.”

It is not true that controversial contractor Sarah Discaya did not appreciate comedian Michael V’s new parody character Ciala Dismaya, or that she is mulling legal action over it. According to her lawyer, Atty. Cornelio Samaniego III, the comedian’s impersonation was “okay” with Discaya, noting she had no “violent reaction” to it.

Nirerespeto natin si Michael V. Idol natin iyan sa Bubble Gang. Trabaho niya yan. Parang ako, abogado, trabaho ko ito. Si Sir Michael, trabaho niya yun. Doon siya kilala. So, bakit tayo magagalit?” Samaniego said.

(We respect Michael V. He’s our idol in Bubble Gang. That’s his job. Just like me, I’m a lawyer, this is my job. For Sir Michael, that’s his work. That’s what he’s known for. So why would we get mad?)

Discaya’s lawyer did not mention any plan to file legal action against Michael V., contrary to what the false FB post claimed.

The spurious post surfaced a day after the comedy program released a teaser video on its official FB page for the parody episode, with a caption that stated: “Hindi pa tapos ang hearing. (The hearing is not yet over.)” On Sept. 9, Bubble Gang also shared other photos of Michael V. dressed up as Discaya with the same hairstyle, glasses, and a mole below the nose.

Sarah and her husband, Pacifico “Curlee” Discaya, have emerged into the national spotlight since Congress and Senate held probes into the alleged anomalous flood control projects in the country.

During the Senate hearings, Sarah admitted owning nine construction firms that bid against each other for a single government project contract. The Discaya couple also claimed that several politicians and officials from the Department of Public Works and Highways have allegedly demanded kickbacks of 10% to 25% after their companies secured flood control projects.
