Several Facebook (FB) pages posing as the SM Malls’ Bacolod City branch have been promoting a 70% discount on Casio G-shock watches. This is fake.
A reader sent a request to VERA Files’ Messenger Misinformation Tipline to verify one such post from May 26. A caption of the post read in part:
“Today, CASIO officially announced a massive 70% OFF promotion to celebrate its 77th Anniversary, bringing the price of the G-SHOCK GTS 8600 down to just PHP 1,799.00 and FREE SHIPPING!”
The post also contained a shortened bit.ly link, alleging it to be the official Casio website.
This is a fake promotion. The pages that uploaded these posts are impostors. Casio has warned against discounts offered by third-party resellers.
The official Casio G-Shock FB page warned on June 25, 2024 against fake pages selling their products at a 70% discount. “Casio G-Shock PH will NEVER conduct promotions through an individual or third-party that will ask for payment or personal information,” the company said in a similar advisory on March 31.
At least three impostor pages titled SM City Bacolod posted similar promotions linking to dubious websites pretending to represent Casio. The official SM City Bacolod FB page has the username @smcitybacolod, while the impostor pages have no usernames.
The fake promotion was first uploaded by the impostor page SM City Bacolod (created May 26) and has so far garnered over 1,400 reactions, 247 comments and 84 shares.
