FACT CHECK: Suan did NOT propose burying Mima Alicia at the Libingan ng mga Bayani

WHAT WAS CLAIMED

Lordan Suan proposes burying deceased political vlogger Alicia Lipata, popularly known as Mima Alicia, at the Libingan ng mga Bayani.

OUR VERDICT

Fake:

No official House records, news reports, or public statements show that Suan advocated for the burial of vlogger Mima Alicia at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. The circulating graphic is a fabricated news card that falsely links her death to Suan's legislative proposal, the Libingan ng mga Bayani Mindanao Annex Act.

At least five Facebook posts claim that Cagayan de Oro Rep. Lordan Suan has proposed burying deceased political vlogger Alicia Lipata, popularly known as Mima Alicia, at the Heroes’ Cemetery. This is fake.

The first post published on July 30 contains a graphic that features a photo of the late content creator and the lawmaker, set against a background image of a casket at a wake with the text:

“Suan, isinusulong ang paglibing kay Mima Alicia sa Libingan ng mga Bayani

(Suan pushes for Mima Alicia’s burial at the Heroes’ Cemetery).”

The accompanying caption frames the claim as an official news update:

β€œππˆπ‘π€πƒπ€ 𝐔𝐏𝐃𝐀𝐓𝐄 | SUAN, GISUGYOT NGA IPALUBONG SI PRO BBM VLOGGER MIMA ALICIA SA LIBINGAN NG MGA BAYANI

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY β€” As a sign of respect and recognition for her contributions, Congressman Lordan Suan expressed his support for burying Mima Alicia at the Heroes’ Cemetery).”

The same graphic was reuploaded a day after its initial circulation with a caption that solicits public opinion on the alleged proposal.

The legislator has made no such proposal or public statement advocating for Mima Alicia’s interment at the Heroes’ Cemetery.

Suan authored the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani Mindanao Annex Act, originally filed as House Bill No. 9878 and later refiled as House Bill No. 2386, which seeks to establish a regional memorial annex in Cagayan de Oro for military veterans and national figures.

Rep. Lordan Suan did not propose burying vlogger Mima Alicia at the Libingan ng mga Bayani. The false claim conflates her death with Suan’s bill creating a Mindanao regional heroes' cemetery annex for veterans.

Guidelines under Armed Forces of the Philippines Regulation G 161-375 strictly restrict burial at the site to military personnel, medal of valor recipients, former presidents, national artists and select high-ranking officials. Private citizens and digital content creators are ineligible for interment at the national shrine, located in Taguig City.

The fake post surfaced two weeks after Mima Alicia was killed in a shooting incident in Caloocan City on July 17. The claim circulated online following public discussions surrounding her death and coincided with Suan’s pending measure regarding the establishment of a regional burial annex.
