A video advisory supposedly from popular comedian and television host Vice Ganda warning the public against voting for reelectionist representative Lordan Suan of Cagayan de Oro City’s first congressional district is circulating on Facebook. This is fabricated.

Uploaded on May 3, the 11-second clip bore a text overlay and a picture of Suan with a description that reads, respectively:

“MAG-INGAT SA BUAYA THIS MAY 12 SINO SIYA (VICE GANDA ADVISORY)

BEWARE OF THE CROCODILE THIS MAY 12 WHO IS IT? (VICE GANDA ADVISORY)”

“ATTY. LORDAN SUAN

QUADCOMM/IMPEACHMENT MEMBER”

It carried the same text in the caption, with a disclaimer: “NO VIOLENCE AGAINST POLITICS.”

Popular comedian and TV host Vice Ganda did not warn the public against voting for reelectionist Rep. Lordan Suan of Cagayan de Oro City’s first district. The clip was digitally altered.

Vice Ganda has never published a statement or video about the congressman on any of her official social media accounts.

The fake clip used and edited the comedian’s May 3 video endorsement of former Interior secretary and now senatorial candidate Benjamin “Benhur” Abalos Jr.

Some people who wrote comments on the post were under the impression that the video advisory really came from Vice Ganda, with one even affirming, “Tama po Mimi Vice,” while others responded by sharing the comedian host’s original clip.

VERA Files Fact Check has previously debunked two bogus quote cards related to Suan—one alleging he voted in favor of Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment in exchange for ayuda, and another claiming that actress and vlogger Ivana Alawi criticized him for signing the impeachment complaint.

This was not the first time a fabricated post involving political statements was attributed to Vice Ganda. In March, VERA Files fact checked a fake quote supposedly from the popular TV host expressing support for former president Rodrigo Duterte following news of his arrest, which the comedian has refuted.

The altered video surfaced as the May 12 elections drew closer.

Posted by Facebook page Philippine News Multimedia (created on March 7, 2022), the fabricated video has since received 342,000 views, 3,300 reactions, 704 comments, and 1,100 shares.
