Several Facebook (FB) users published a quote card showing senatorial candidate Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan supposedly promising to vote, if elected, for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. This is fake.

Posted on May 6, the quote card bore the social media handles of the organization iMPACT Leadership and quoted Pangilinan as supposedly saying:

“When I win, I will vote to impeach Sara Duterte.”

This is fake. iMPACT Leadership has refuted the authenticity of the quote card. There has been no public record of Pangilinan saying he will vote to impeach the vice president.

There has been no public record of Kiko Pangilinan promising to vote, if elected, for the impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte. iMPACT Leadership has refuted the fake quote card, which used its social media handles, and advised readers to not believe such posts.

The same day the erroneous claim circulated, iMPACT Leadership shared a now-deleted version of the quote card on its official FB page. Their caption read:

FAKE NEWS ALERT. iMPACT Leadership warns the public of social media posts that use misleading quote cards, posing as iMPACT Leadership to spread fake news.”

With regard to Pangilinan’s stance on Duterte’s impeachment, the latest information VERA Files Fact Check could gather is from a March conference in Iloilo, where he and another senatorial candidate Bam Aquino vowed that, if elected, they will vote based on evidence and the rule of law during the vice president’s impeachment trial.

“As senator-judges, we will just have to look at the evidence. We will hear all sides. The institution will benefit only if the process is fair and just,” Pangilinan said.

The fake quote cards circulated as the May 12 elections drew closer.

The posts by two FB users and a page named Duterte Legacy (created March 15) have collectively garnered around 4,500 reactions, 5300 comments and 548 shares.
