Netizens are circulating a video of overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Hong Kong surrounding Vice President Sara Duterte and chanting for her impeachment. This is fake.
On March 9, a netizen uploaded on Facebook (FB) and TikTok a 16-second clip showing a frenzied crowd following the vice president along a sidewalk.
The video made it seem that the people were repeatedly shouting:
“Impeach. Impeach. Impeach Sara.”
It also carried the text:
“PATI SA HONG KONG SINUSUKA SI SARA (EVEN IN HONG KONG THEY ARE DISOWNING SARA).”
This video is altered. A different audio clip from a protest in the Philippines calling for Duterte’s impeachment was laid on top of the Hong Kong clip.

On Jan. 31, Inquirer.net published the original video where the audio was taken. It shows protesters who gathered at the People Power Monument along EDSA calling for Duterte’s removal from office.
Other videos found by VERA Files Fact Check showing the scene in Hong Kong with Duterte did not feature anybody shouting “Impeach!”. The Filipino crowd actually expressed support for the vice president with some even shouting “Duterte, Duterte“.
The altered video circulated the same day the vice president attended an event dedicated to former president Rodrigo Duterte in Hong Kong’s Southorn Stadium. Two days later, the elder Duterte was arrested upon his arrival in Manila on the strength of a warrant issued by the International Criminal Court for alleged crimes against humanity in connection with his administration’s bloody drug war.
The altered video uploaded by TikTok user @_aliciacommentaries garnered 17,800 reactions, 1,650 comments, 1,329 shares and 876,000 views before it was taken down. Six other posts by FB users and pages such as Mimaa Alicia (created on April 21, 2020 as Useless) and Pinas Thoughts (July 10, 2016) collectively garnered 5,088 reactions, 4,035 comments, 3,915 shares, 693,100 views.
