A Facebook (FB) post claimed that actress and vlogger Ivana Alawi criticized Cagayan de Oro Rep. Lordan Suan for signing the impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte. This is fake.
A reader sent for verification through VERA Files’ Messenger Misinformation Tipline an April 11 post supposedly quoting Alawi as saying:
“ABOGADONG KULANG SA PAG-AARAL YAN SI LORDAN SUAN. HINDI NIYA INISIP ANG KAPAKANAN SA SUSUNOD NA HENERASYON” – Ivana Alawi, Blogger/Actress.
(Lordan Suan is a lawyer who lacks education. He doesn’t think about the welfare of the next generation. – Ivana Alawi, Blogger/Actress)”
The quote card bearing GMA News’ logo is fabricated. No article or post containing such a statement from Alawi was published on GMA News’ website and social media pages.
Alawi has never published a statement about the vice president’s impeachment on any of her official social media accounts nor spoken about it in her YouTube vlogs.
This is not the first time a fabricated quote card concerning Suan’s signing of the impeachment against the vice president has circulated. Last February, VERA Files debunked a fake post claiming that the congressman said he signed the impeachment in exchange for ayuda.
The claim went viral on FB the same week the House prosecution panel said it is still optimistic that Senate President Franis “Chiz” Escudero will reconsider a motion to issue a summons to Duterte before the formal impeachment trial begins in July.
Posted by FB page Philippines News Multimedia (created March 7, 2022), the fake quote card has gained around 2,000 reactions, 441 comments and 231 shares. It has also been shared in an FB group named “CDO CHEAPEST RENT A CAR.”
