Two Facebook posts claim that the Department of Education (DepEd) is giving away P5,000 to P7,000 cash assistance to graduating students. This is fake. The DepEd has no such program.
Uploaded as early as April 4, a graphic used the DepEd’s logo along with the text that read:
“GRADUATING STUDENT MAY MATATANGGAP NA CASH ASSISTANCE MULA SA DEPED (will receive cash assistance from DepEd). PHP 7,000 COLLEGE | SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL | HIGH SCHOOL | ELEMENTARY.”
Another post on April 11 said: “CASH ASSISTANCE PAYOUT APRIL 15, 2025. P5,000 PER STUDENT. Elementary | High School | Senior High School | College.”
These are scams. There is no such announcement from DepEd’s official website or social media channels about a financial assistance program for graduating students.
The posts carried links to phishing websites that steal the personal information of netizens.
The Education department has three assistance programs listed on its website: Educational Service Contracting Program for Grades 7-10, Senior High School Voucher Program for Grades 11 and 12, and Joint Delivery Voucher Program for Grade 12 students enrolled in the Technical-Vocational Livelihood Track.
DepEd has been warning against scholarship scams since last year and has urged the public to monitor announcements from its official channels.
Uploaded by FB pages Government Ph and Philippines Scholarship Association, the bogus posts received 1,212 interactions.
The scams emerged days before the school year 2024-2025 ended on April 15.
