A viral quote card circulating online claims that Metropolitan Manila Development Authority General Manager and former national police chief Nicolas Torre III announced his candidacy for the vice presidency in 2028. This is fake.

Published on April 20, the graphic features a photo of the ex-PNP chief along with the statement:

TATAKBO AKONG BISE-PRESIDENTE SA 2028. PARA MAISAAYOS ANG NAGAWANG MALI NG KASALUKUYANG BISE-PRESIDENTE.

(I will run for vice president in 2028. To fix the mistakes made by the current vice president.)

Speaking to VERA Files Fact Check, Torre debunked the quote, laughing off his alleged declaration that he will run for the second highest position in the country. He joked: “Tumakbo na ako…gamit ang bisikleta.” (I already ran…using my bicycle.)

While he has no current plans to run for public office, Torre remained non-committal about the distant future, stating: “Kung ‘yan ay darating, darating din yan.” (If that [time] comes, it will come.) He emphasized that his priority at this time is to fulfill his duties at the MMDA.

MMDA General Manager Nicolas Torre denied announcing that he is running for vice president in 2028. He said he has no current political plans.

Torre said he only learned of the quote card when contacted by VERA Files for verification and expressed confusion over why he was being targeted by such claims.

There is no official record or news report from any credible organizations documenting Torre attacking the incumbent vice president. In a January 2026 interview, he explicitly declined to comment on political developments.

The disinformation surfaced following a series of high profile operations led by Torre. On April 28, he called out motorists who looted soft drinks from an overturned truck on C5 Road, Taguig.
