A video circulating on Facebook claims that a supposed “Bagyong Yasmin” has intensified into a super typhoon and will bring rainfall to the entire country. This is fake and was generated using artificial intelligence.
On Dec. 8, an FB page posted twice a 16-second video that was packaged like a weather news report. The speaker in the spurious clip can be heard saying:
“Bagyong Yasmin ganap nang super typhoon. Buong bansa uulanin. Nakataas ang signal number 5 sa mga lugar sa bansa. Malakas na hangin ang dala, mag-ingat. Listahan ng mga lugar na may warning signal at walang pasok makikita sa post namin at comment section tingnan mo. Magshare ka at follow para updated ka.”
Typhoon Yasmin is now a super typhoon. It will rain all over the country. Signal No. 5 is raised in areas in the country. Strong winds are coming, be careful. List of areas with warning signals and class suspensions can be found in our post and in the comment section, check it out. Share and follow to stay updated.)

Since the erroneous clip was posted, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has not reported any super typhoon named Yasmin within the Philippine Area of Responsibility.
As of Dec. 12, PAGASA said no Low Pressure Areas (LPAs) are being monitored for tropical cyclone formation either.
The state weather bureau explained that parts of Luzon will continue experiencing rainfall due to the shear line formed by the convergence of the northeast monsoon or the amihan and the easterlies.
The links in the post that supposedly contain areas with no classes and signal warnings are clickbaits. One link redirects to a blog posing as a government site, while the two others lead to online shopping platforms.
AI-Generated clip
Visual signs show that the video was made using artificial intelligence:
- In the first half of the clip, the watermark of Gemini can be seen at the bottom right of the part, indicating that it was made using Google’s generative AI tool.
- The texts “Bagyong” and “Typhoon” in the background are misspelled and distorted.
- Unusual movement of the speaker’s mouth
VERA Files tapped the Deepfakes Analysis Unit, part of the India-based Trusted Information Alliance, to further test the video’s authenticity. Results from AI detection tools SynthID, Hiya Audio Intelligence and Hive’s deepfake detection tool reveal that the video was AI-generated.
The fake video surfaced after Tropical Depression Wilma made landfall twice in Eastern Samar last Dec. 6. It weakened into an LPA the next day.
As of writing, the two videos posted by the FB page TNC Nationwide (created Nov. 12, 2025) collectively garnered 197,000 views, 3,000 reactions, 124 comments and 868 shares.
