Minimum jeepney fares remain at P9, and will not rise to P12 by November, contrary to the claim of at least two online posts making the rounds on social media.
Facebook pages Mr. Nationalista and PhilippiNews Trends published the fake news Sept. 9, posting a photo of a public utility jeepney overlaid with the phrase, “12 pesos jeepney fare pinatupad na (12-peso jeepney fare, implemented)!”
It claimed the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) approved “last Friday” the petition for a three-peso fare hike being sough by various transport groups.
The Department of Transportation itself has debunked this claim.
In a tweet the same day the fabricated posts were published, the DOTr said:
