VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Marcos NOT the first to invite LGBT community to Palace

False

A Facebook (FB) video claimed that members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community were invited to Malacañang last month for the first time in history. This is not true. The group was also invited to the palace in 2019.

“Take note, ito ang kauna-unahang pagkakataon na may mga nakapunta’t inimbitahan na mga kapatid natin mula sa LGBT ang nagsalo-salo sa Malacanang (this is the first time that our fellows from the LGBT community were invited for a celebration in Malacañang),” a voice-over at the 45-second mark of a seven-minute video claimed.

The video, uploaded on June 30, bore this caption:

HALA!!! NAG HIGAWAN SA LOOB NG MALACAÑANG Ng makita SI pangulo Bongbong Marcos. 1st time nayare ito sa palasyo napasigaw at napa tili Ang ating mga kapatid na GLBT Ng makita SI pangulo (Wow!!! Screams erupted inside Malacañang when President Bongbong Marcos appeared. This is the first time it happened, our [LGBT] fellows shouted and screamed when they saw the president).”

In 2022, LGBT Pilipinas backed the candidacies of Marcos and his running mate Vice President Sara Duterte.

While it was the first time for First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos to host a pride month reception for advocacy group LGBT Pilipinas on June 29, as shown in the video,  it was not the first time for the group to attend a party at the palace.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte hosted a thanksgiving party for LGBT Pilipinas at the palace on Dec. 17, 2019. Photos and video of the occasion are posted on the Presidential Communications Office website and the Radio Television Malacañang YouTube channel.

Published on the heels of the Pride Day celebration, FB page BNK TV’s erroneous video, which was uploaded twice, has so far drawn a total of 69,600 views, 5,625 reactions, 485 shares and 338 comments.
BNK TV – originally named Betchaii MOTOgear parts & accesoriess – was created on Aug. 19, 2020. It changed its name to BNK TV on May 16, 2022. The page primarily posts content about Marcos.
