VERA FILES FACT CHECK: Mocha Uson did NOT call Sara Duterte stupid

WHAT WAS CLAIMED

Mocha Uson called Vice President Sara Duterte bobo

OUR VERDICT

False:

Mocha Uson’s tirade was actually targeted toward Sara Duterte’s predecessor, Leni Robredo.

Uson lambasted Robredo after the latter delivered a video address in an event of the non-government organization DRCNet Foundation. On March 14, 2017, Robredo criticized extrajudicial killings under former president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.

Netizens on Facebook (FB) and on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) falsely claimed that pro-Duterte vlogger Mocha Uson called Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio bobo (stupid).

The netizens’ posts carried a video of Uson cursing during a March 18, 2017 episode of the now-defunct DZRH radio program Mocha Uson Blog

The claim is false. Uson’s tirade was actually targeted toward Duterte-Carpio’s predecessor, Leni Robredo.

Uson lambasted Robredo after the latter delivered a video address in an event of the non-government organization DRCNet Foundation. On March 14, 2017, Robredo criticized extrajudicial killings under former president Rodrigo Duterte’s war on drugs.

DZRH took down the controversial episode with Uson. However, copies of the video that remain online show Uson saying this:

Sa madaling salita, Leni, makinig ka: bobo ka! Isama mo na lahat ng mga staff mo diyan sa Office of the Vice President, p******a kayo, lahat kayo bobo (In other words, Leni [Robredo], listen: you’re stupid! Including all of your staff members at the Office of the Vice President, you’re sons of b****s, you’re all stupid). ”

X user @karatinyoko first posted the erroneous video on Sept. 12. Facebook page Budol Government (created on April 27, 2010), reposted the clip from X a day later.

Another FB netizen uploaded the Uson video claiming she was addressing Duterte-Carpio’s defense of her office’s use of confidential funds. The netizen added a disclaimer, “breaking charot (joke) news,” but some people still thought the claim was true.

The videos appeared a day after Sen. Risa Hontiveros continued to urge Duterte-Carpio to justify her office’s request for and use of confidential funds. It got over 10,504 interactions on X and garnered 331,677 interactions on FB. PressOne previously debunked this claim.
